It has also been recommended as a great stress reducer. Cigarettes are expensive because of the heavy tax placed on it by the government. This revenue is used to pay for the large amounts of hospital treatments as a result of smoking related illnesses. One solution to the problem of eradicating smoking related illnesses is to ban cigarettes. It will save many people from the misery caused by smoking. However this move will obviously be very unpopular with smokers. Kaolina I don't think it is fair to label smokers as stupid. After all there are many famous smokers- Bruce Willis, Winston Churchill, Fidel Castro are just a few to name. Its not easy to give up smoking. Nicotene patches to help but to give up but to quit smoking also requires alot of willpower. Another way to decrease the number of smokers is to charge them for hospital treatment. But this will not have an immediate effect on the number of smokers. It will take time for the number to decrease this way. Although it is one way of increasing government revenue which can be better spent on other things such as school materials; it isn't fair on smokers to force them to "cough up" on medical treatment. Why should smokers have to pay for their treatment when alcholics are an equally heavy burden on society. The same is with people who take illegal drugs.
